Translator: Ruby
What did you want to talk to us about, Producer?
...Is it perhaps something to do with the audition that the five of us tried out for?
It’s a fantasy movie set in 19th century London~. It’s going to be shot in London as well~

We’re likely to end up standing out next to the extras if they’re all English people though~

I did my utmost at the audition, and the result is… Pardon? The five of us all passed?
I’m overjoyed. Needless to say, this is all thanks to your guidance, Producer.
A story's world / More than just the text itself / Written in a good mood. It looks like there’s going to be a lot of tricky scenes, I wonder if everything will be okay~.
In that case, how about we hold a study meeting to get to grips with the work?
I’m in agreement. For this movie, we’ll have to gain an impeccable grasp of the works’ contents, sharing information between ourselves will be vital.
...Understood. I’ll collect reference materials that seem like they could be useful for our research.
I look forward to working with you, Kazuki-sensei. I hope we can make a good movie~
...That’s right. In order to make this the best movie it can possibly be… let’s do our best.

Good morning everyo—… Whoa, there’s piles and piles of materials…
Thanks to the sheer amount of books and printouts, the desk has become completely buried…
Good morning, you two. Is everyone present now? ...Today, we’re having a study meeting for the movie.

It’ll be a good opportunity to learn more about 19th century London and the culture that surrounded it.

...I brought books that I thought would be useful for understanding the movie’s setting.
Getting through all of this pile seems like it’ll be a little tough though…
But all of these books look fascinating… It seems like they all have a deep understanding of the movie’s world.
I brought some books I found in my university’s library just in case, but…

Since you’ve already gathered this many materials, they’ll probably be useless~

...That’s not the case at all. The more materials, the better.

The movie’s setting is one in which novelists can use magic.
...That’s right. In the movie’s world there are books known as “Tomes”.

...The text written within these tomes can be released as magical spells. Those who use these tomes are called “Mages”.

So if you were to write “Flames burn around me”, it would actually happen~?

With the humble brushtip / the world can be rewritten / with the first words that come to mind.

That’s right. There are no problems with your understanding of the setting, Kitamura-kun.
And it seems as if each mage has a specific genre that they excel at.

This, on top of the individual’s personality.

That’s right. If I became a mage, I’d want to make lots of beautiful flowers bloom.
It looks like everyone read the script dutifully~
In that case we’ll have a fruitful study meeting, I’m sure. Let us continue like this.

The character I play is Mitsumasa Akahoshi, a mage from Japan~

He’s a literary genius but has very little control over the magical power of his words~

Because he isn’t very good at writing tomes, he can’t use magic. That’s the kind of world this is.

Couldn’t he just use a book written by someone else then?

When it comes to using someone else’s tome, the author and the user have to have a strong compatibility.
I see. The same way that it’s hard to understand why a book that doesn’t suit your tastes is considered good, then.
When dealing with complex magic, the compatibility of the tome writer and magic user is even more crucial.
Therefore, the key to the story is Sam, who is able to write for others.

...I play Sam, a mysterious man who lost all of his memories.

...He can replicate the literary style of others, down to their quirks and habits.

Because of this, he can create tomes that are compatible with any user.
Akahoshi, wishing he could be a mage, hears of these rumours.

In search of a tome that he can use, he heads to London…

And that’s where our story begins. Yep, it sure is a pretty exciting introduction.
...At any rate, I’m playing someone who writes books for others, huh.
Start of spring announced / by birdsong floating in air - / the mimicking Shrike.

In other words, you’re like a ghostwriter~.

.........
(...It looked like Kazuki-sensei’s face clouded over for a moment just then… Was it just my imagination~?)

Everyone, may I speak for a moment…?
Of course, if I can answer your question then please feel free to ask me anything.
It’s about my role…

I’m unsure about how to act without drawing on my own experiences.

...I’m interested as well. You’ve played a lot of different roles, Michio-san.
That’s right, you play a lot of roles that are pretty different from you, Michio-san.

Like Li Dao, ruler of the underworld, or the always listless Yuu… they’re all amazing!

I want to know how you do it too.

Hmm… Very well, I’ll give you some advice based on my prior experience.
Thank you very much.
An acting class taught by Michio-sensei, huh~ I wonder what it’ll be like~

Well then, allow me to illustrate how I form my roles.

Firstly, I read the script and information about my role, then list the important aspects of the work. From that, I find the backbone of my role.

The backbone…? Like the life they led up until now, that sort of thing?
That’s correct. I simulate their life of sorts… that is how I form my roles.
...I shaped characters in the same sort of way when I was writing.
I see… So that’s how the two of you form characters...
The character you play, Chuck, has a younger brother and sister, right Kuro-sensei~?
That’s correct. And Chuck’s genre speciality is fairytales.

Perhaps he began writing them for his younger siblings.

In that case, although he seems cynical, perhaps he actually has a kind heart deep down.

I think I understand him now. Thank you for your advice, Hazama-san.

Tsukumo-san mentioned how he shaped his characters earlier, but I wonder what sort of books he wrote before becoming an idol?
His light novels~? I’ve read them~
His stuff is popular among young people, you know. I should check it out too.
...You read my work, Sora-san?
After I found out that there was a former author in the same office as me, I got curious as to what kind of books you wrote~
...It’s a shoddy piece of work.

...It lacks a sense of self.

…It may keep up appearances on the outside, but it’s hollow on the inside, nothing but a vapid list of words.

...Is that… so~?
Unlike mathematics, there is no right or wrong to literature. Novels may contain suffering that only the writer knows about.

...Even so, my work is insignificant, I didn’t think that you would read it…

...What other novels do you like to read, Sora-san?

I read a lot of different stuff~ My favourite author is...
(...He said my father’s name...?)
Everything he wrote is good, but I especially like his earlier works~ For example...
(...That’s one that my father wrote on his own, when I was young. Back when he was able to write without any worries…)

...Those early works are my favourites as well.

Is that so~? Fufu, you seem like the sort of person who’d like those ones~.
I’m quite interested in that novel too.
Oh, do you want to read it~? You can borrow my copy if you’d like~?
Fufu, those three are quite compatible, aren’t they?
That’s true. They’re all the same age, and they seem to get along rather well.

I was thinking about playing this scene kind of like this~

...Ah, but then your good line here would disappear, I think~

…Either way is fine by me. I’ll go along with whatever you do, Sora-san.
Hmm…

The weathervane spins / East to West, and back again / Never decisive.

You don’t seem to be very assertive, Kazuki-sensei~

...Is that… so?
If you don’t know what you want to do, then you can’t be free~

I think it would be good for you to be more like yourself~

.........
(...Ah. That reaction… I might have accidentally said something uncalled-for and hit a sore spot~...)

(...Now I’ve really gone and done it… huh~)

...Ah, Producer-san~.

…"You seem down, did something happen?"... Well…

Yeah, kinda~. I was just thinking that I might have said something uncalled-for to Kazuki-sensei.

...A long time ago, I had a really close friend~. They were very kind~

But then one day, I mistakenly told them something the way I saw it. I said too much~. We fought and never spoke again…

I wonder, did I just make that same mistake~...?

Huh… You think Kazuki-sensei won’t feel that way? What makes you think that?

You say I should speak to the person himself, huh~... Okay, I’ll try speaking with Kazuki-sensei again~

Kazuki-sensei, do you have a minute~? I’d like to speak with you, if that’s okay...
…Good timing, Sora-san. I wanted to tell you something as well.

...Thank you for telling me that I’m not free the way I am right now.

...What do you mean~?
...It certainly seems as if I haven’t been assertive enough.

...The things that I want to do… From here on, I want to find out what those things are. That’s what I wanted to tell you.

...You aren’t mad at me~?
…Mad? Why would I be mad at you?

... I want to hear the opinions of many different people in order to truly express ‘myself’ as an idol.

...In the future, I would like it if you would continue to tell me what you think, Sora-san.

...Kazuki-sensei…

Got it, I will~

...I might not realise when I’ve said too much though, can you put up with that~? Fufu~

Well then, from tomorrow we’ll be in the London location.
We completed our action lessons ahead of the shoot, I’m looking forward to it.
I was rather taken aback by your physical ability, Watanabe-san.

As expected, your movements when rehearsing the combat scenes were the sharpest out of us all.

Fufu. Don’t compliment me like that, I’ll get embarrassed.
...The five of us thoroughly read through the script, as well.

...All that’s left is to show the results of our hard work at the shooting.

Finding another / Myself, in a far away / Sky, diligently. We have to make sure we pack today, then~
Yep! Let’s do our best at the shoot tomorrow, everyone!

A foreign land… Our London shoot is finally about to begin.
When I shot that detective drama, the shoot location was just a set… but this time we’re on the real streets of London. It’s exciting.
If everyone is to do their utmost, then the shoot can go off without a hitch.
“You’re Sam, aren’t you? I was pretty surprised to find out that you were the librarian of the Sorcerer’s Library.”
“...We’ve already closed for the day. If you need anything, come again tomorrow…”
“I want you to write a tome for me. You’re a ghostwriter, right?”
“...Do you have any money? You certainly don’t look like you do.”
“Uhm, I have about ten pounds…?”
“What an underestimation. I will accept nothing less than 100 pounds. Only then will I even think of listening to you.”
“A-a hundred pounds!? That’s a lot of money… Ah, hey, wait!!”

“I won’t give up…! I came all the way here from Japan just for this.”

“Are you even listening to me!? I am not leaving until I get you to write a tome for me!”

“...A censorship investigator? What does an elite of the society such as yourself want from me?”
“We want to know if you know anything about this tome.”
“In that case, don’t you think it would be faster for you to investigate the library’s catalogue?”
“Most unfortunately, there seem to be no records of this most vulgar book, and our search turned up nothing.”

“Which is why I came to ask the one who wrote it instead… Ghostwriter-san.”

“Wait, I’m really not—”
“Arguing about this is most futile. I am hereby detaining you on charges of the writing of forbidden books, a hearing shall be held.”
“...I may have lost my memories, but I am not the type of good-natured person who won’t go down without a fight.”
“Then I guess it can’t be helped. Very well then… Let me reveal your sins with my fairytales—!”
(Chuck performs magic and Mitsumasa runs in)
“W-Wha… Wha…! D-Don’t start fighting in a place like this~!”
The director praised you, Kuro-sensei~
I was able to show off how I developed this role together with everyone. Chuck Low is a complex role… But I’ll play him to the best of my abilities until the very end.

“Th-Those two are together… And that monster from before is…”
“Jonathan Wilder, sending fear your way… On the surface, I am known as a horror writer.”
“...Oh, and you are… You seem to be similar to me. How very interesting.”
“...Who are you? And what do you mean I’m similar to you…?”
“He is Philip Miles. His imagination is quite rich, so please tolerate any outrageous remarks.”

“Anyhow, the monster just then…? That is a human being. Well, was a human being, up until a few hours ago.”

“It seems to have come from a banned book. Our job is twofold - investigation and extermination of those monsters.”'

“And it seems that you two are this investigator’s suspects… hmm.”

“In that case, how about we cooperate with you in order to prove your innocence?”

Jonathan is a humorous and sociable horror writer. His speciality is summoning creatures.
Philip, on the other hand, has a quiet personality. But his mind is full of curiosity.

His speciality is creating machinery. In today’s terms he would be called a science fiction writer.

And Jonathan and Philip are partners. Let’s take a breather after all that dialogue, shall we?
Indeed. By building a stronger relationship of trust with each other, our ability to act in such a ‘partner-like’ manner will improve as well.

“Sam’s handwriting and the handwriting inside the forbidden book don’t match… what does this mean?”

“Impossible… no matter how skilled the writer, there will always be a trace linking them to the tome.”

“This is… there’s a sign of magic coming from elsewhere… no way!”

(Chuck is hit with magic)
“...Kh..Guwaa…!”
“Oh, what’s this? Is the fairytale writer making a mockery of detectives and their novels with his lackluster investigation? ...Chuck.”
“Jonathan…! Then the fraudulent ghostwriter who was distributing banned books was…”
“That’s right, it was me. Fufu, I just thought of a fun way to make the most out of my failed creations.”

“I can use them to take care of messy situations like this one. Juuuust like… this!”

(Chuck falls to the ground)
“Nothing to say?”

“What a shame! I’ll just take this key to the forbidden area then… Not like you can object anyway”

(Jonathan takes the key)
“Haha… And with this, the banned book in which all of creation is written, the ‘Akashic Records’, falls into my hands…”

“Finally…. Finally I can create the ultimate lifeform - God itself! Ahahaahahaa!!!”

You did a fine job, Kuro-kun. Ah, I mean that in a good way, of course.
In order to make it seem as if Chuck really died, I endlessly rehearsed this scene.

...Although Nekoyanagi-san and Hanamura-san walked in on me rehearsing, and they - thinking it real - caused quite an uproar.

Haha, sounds tough… Tomorrow we’re shooting the climax, so let’s keep our spirits high.

It’s time to shoot the climax… As villains, this is our biggest scene.
Yep! Let’s be the cruelest we can be!
“Ahahahaaa! It’s as if London is a city for ants! Go higher, Philip, higher! Let’s go higher than even the moon!”
“This is the science of the distant future… This is the power that the Akashic Records holds… Fufu, how intriguing.”
“What is that… A steel battleship in the sky…!? Is that thing tracking us…?”

“Ghostwriter, will you cooperate with me in order to detain Jonathan?”

“He is the real culprit behind all of this monster business. I promise, all suspicions against you will be dropped… so please.”

“...The way that London has been thrown into disorder is a great annoyance to me as well. Let’s follow them.”
“Uwaa!? Is that… a flying train!? You made that with your magic, Sam!?”
“It’s simply a creation born from a story. As a ghostwriter, there’s no reason why I wouldn’t be able to write and bring to life something like this.”
“...Wait a second, Sam, are you… Are you planning to hit the battleship with your train!?”

“...I’m coming with you! I’m trying to become a sorcerer too, after all!”

“And… And I said I wouldn’t leave until you wrote a tome for me!”

“...Hmph, have it your way… Now then, let’s begin the counter-attack, shall we?”

“Damn it… there’s no way I’ll be defeated here…”

“I have to repair, and quickly…”

“What’s with that guy… Is his body made of machinery…!?”
“Organisms are too physically fragile. It’s a weak point I refuse to contend with.”

“In order to overcome this, I continuously magically remodelled my own body.”

“A being that transcends life, a being that repeatedly evolves and repairs itself. Kukuku… Philip is my greatest creation.”
“Your greatest creation… No way!? Then that guy is…”
“How foolish… There’s no precedent for being able to magically create a ‘human’, even if it is a monster…!”
“That very precedent is right in front of your eyes. It’s rather vexing, but… You’d know all about that, wouldn’t you… Sam.”
“...!?”

“Wh-What are you talking about…?”

“My existence was… fabricated…!?”

“You and I are the same, Sam. The memories of early life we should have are missing, for example...”
“Because there was no past to remember in the first place…? Then I… Who am I!?”
I had my arm fitted with a mechanism for the part, but… How do I move it in a way that appears mechanical?
I had a similar experience in my Cybernetic Wars role… I might be able to help you out.
I’d appreciate that, Watanabe-kun. In that case, can you start teaching me right away?

“This is… Sam, is this your story…?”

“How strange...ly… beautiful… Truly… interest...ing…”

“...It seems he’s finished. That was admirable, Sam and Akahoshi-san.”
“I don’t have that kind of power, so why…? Where did that explosion of magical power… come from...?”
“...Ten years ago, I was engulfed in that same light… That is my first memory.”

“Ever since that day, I’ve been searching for who I am…”

“Mitsumasa… You finding me… Maybe it was fate.”

“I… My real name is… Momochi Manjirou… That was the name given to me… by you.”

“I did!? ...Wait… Momochi…?”

“H-huh? No way… That’s…”

“That’s right, that’s the name of the tale you wrote… The existence created from that tale was me.”
“...I remember the sight of light overflowing from the pages… But I thought it was just a dream…”

“Does that mean that was… rampant magical power…? ...And then the shock made my memories of it fuzzy…?”

(The floor shakes)
"Uwah!?"
“...I know you two are in the middle of something, but the battleship is starting to fall! We have to evacuate!”
Good work, Michio-san. You acted very well.
Thank you. I’ll be watching from the sidelines for the remaining scenes.

“I must say I didn’t think that you would defeat Philip. That won’t change my plans one bit, though…”

“Now I’ll deal with you all. Please, allow me to start my next piece of work.”

“In this tale, the citizens of London’s lives are traded in to create a God!!!”

“Sacrificing the people of London for something like that… We aren’t going to let you do that!”
“For a third rate horror writer such as yourself, wouldn’t some vulgar monster novel be more appropriate than a bible?”
“...I have no past, London is the only place I have memories of.”

“I won’t let you destroy it… This story isn’t going to end here.”

“Now then, let’s settle this… Jonathan.”

Phew, today’s shooting was a little tough.

This isn’t the time to be getting tired though. Let’s have a strategy meeting once we return back to the hotel, shall we?

...I agree. Let’s make the climax of the story the best we can.

“Hmph. Third rate writers, the lot of you!”
“Let’s go! We have to push him! If this…!”
“Wait! That’s…! The Akashic Records…! What does he intend to do with that!?”
“It’s time for this silly story to end! Behold, my Deus Ex Machina!”

“This book holds infinite power! It can give me great wisdom… Aahhahaaa…”

“Guh…”

“GU-Guaaaaa!!”

“Heehee… At the end of the universe… Agi...Guto...God, Camillot!”

“Raratoto… Raratoto…”

“Are you insane? ...You’re just a human, that spell isn’t something that humans can handle…”
“...It isn’t over yet. That guy seems to have left behind a terrible ‘gift’.”
“What’s that thing coming from Jonathan’s body…? No way… Is that disgusting monster… A God?
“Could you even call such a thing a ‘god’? Let’s return to the ground, and quickly.”
That thing is going to be CG, huh~. We know it’s ‘disgusting’, but I wonder what kind of form it’s going to take~?
...One example could be… A being with a pulsating heart, and bits and pieces of every possible life-form warped and attached to each other around it…
I-Imagining that is making me feel a little sick...
Fufu, thanks, Kazuki-sensei. I was able to grasp the image you presented of the monster, so I’ll make sure to make use of it in my acting~.

(Jonathan's sprite disappears as he's turned into the monster)
“Guhahahahaha!”
“This is a completely unknown life form… It makes no sense to us… There’s nothing we can do here…”
“That’s wrong… Mitsumasa, if you took back the power you originally held, then maybe…”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden… My original power…?”
“You don’t mean… You would give your magical power back to Akahoshi-san? But if you were to do that, then...”
“I would disappear from this world, yes. However, that was inevitable.”

“I was never supposed to exist in the first place, however… I enjoyed the ten years given to me.”

“No! I’m not letting you do that! I don’t need a tome any more, I don’t need magic any more! Stay with me forever!”
“...Please. The London that I love… The world that you live in… Please, save it.”
“Manjirou… I understand. I’ll do it.”
“...Mitsumasa, I am your greatest masterpiece. You should be proud. Now, give me your hand…”
(Sam and Mitsumasa hold hands as Sam’s blue magic flashes on the screen)
“...Manjirou’s life and magic is flowing into me… It’s warm…”
(Sam disappears in a flash of white light)
“I won’t forget you. I’ll spin your sentences… into my story!”
(The screen flashes with Mitsumasa’s yellow magic)
“In the city of London, a star falls… Oh, how beautiful the light…!”
Manjirou’s farewell scene is showy but painful… I started crying without even realising it...!
This is where the two of us step off of the stage. I entrust the last scene to you, Sora-san.
Got it~ In order to make this a perfect piece of work, I’ll bring it to the end beautifully~

“You’re going back to Japan then, Akahoshi-san?”
“That’s right. I wasn’t here for long, but thank you for your help.”
“...Sam...No, Manjirou-san… My condolences about what happened to him.”
“No, it’s fine. I can feel his presence within me, so I won’t be lonely…”
“Is that so… He’ll continue to live on inside you, then.”
“That’s right, and... The original piece I used to bring him to life should still be in my parents’ collection.”

“If I put enough magic inside that book, then maybe…”

Draw the curtain closed / And reveal the lingering / Memory inside. Good job, everyone~.
...That was a moving final scene. Your acting was excellent, Sora-san.
Fufu~. Your acting was so good that it propped mine up~

...I hope that Mitsumasa meets Manjirou again~

We’ll have some free time until tomorrow’s flight. How does a bit of sightseeing sound?
That sounds like a wonderful idea. Where do you think we should go?
...Actually, I wrote a list of places I’d like to visit in London before coming here.
I see… These are all places to do with British literature, no?

How interesting. Very well then, let us adopt Tsukumo-kun’s plan.

Are we going to be able to go to all of these, though~? There sure are a lot, there might be too many~
No… I think if we set our minds to it, we’ll just about be able to get around to all of them.
Let’s plan out a route so we can travel as efficiently as possible.
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, huh~

You’re going to keep going right up until the end too, right Producer-san~?

...Very well, let’s go. Dickens and the others await us.
